| Kärnan Kärnan has guarded Helsingborg for nearly 700 years and has become a symbol of the city. A spiral staircase leads up to the top where there are magnifi cent views of the city and Denmark. Kärnan is 34 m high with 4.5-m thick walls. The tower is the only part of the old fortress that remains, and it has been there since the Middle Ages. The terrace steps that link Kärnan with Stortorget below were opened in 1903. The City Hall Helsingborg has a magnifi cent City Hall dating back to 1897. It is not just the splendid exterior that is impressive, the hall with the stairway and the session chambers are also imposing. Guided group tours can be booked through the Tourist Information Offi ce. ![]() Church of St. Mary The building of this beautiful church started in the beginning of the 14th century and finished some hundred years later. Have a look at the exquisite 15th century altar screen and the memorial plaque to the famous composer Dietrich Buxtehude who was the organist here in the 17th century. Helsingborg has many other beautiful churches including the Gustav Adolf Church in the south and Raus Church just east of Råå. The Dunker Culture Centre Welcome to the biggest culture centre in southern Sweden. The centre has attracted national and international attention. The beautiful white building was designed by the Danish architect Kim Utzon and has a sculptural façade that faces the Sound and Denmark. The centre holds temporary exhibitions, city and cultural history, music and a variety of high-quality arrangements. The museum shop, bistro and restaurant are also worth a visit. The Dunker Culture Centre is located in Norra Hamnen, an exciting location with an exotic feel of southerly latitudes. |
