![]() Kulturværft is the city´s fantastic cultural centre, which shows all sides of culture in an exceptional building. When the shipbuilding industry closed down, the buildings weren´t demolished but enhanced with new exciting architecture that links them with a sail-inspired facade structure. The cultural centre has a hyper-modern media library over three floors, a large theatre and concert hall, a small stage, exhibition and conference facilities, a viewing platform and a nice restaurant, Spisestuen. For more information on address, opening times, prices and programme, see www.kuto.dk M/S Maritime Museum Next door to the cultural centre is the new, improbable underground maritime museum. The museum is built into an old dry dock located underground. The very exciting architecture is by the famous architect group BIG. Exhibitions and interactive installations tell the story of Denmark as a maritime nation. There is also access to databases, archives and a library, and, naturally, a café with underground views and a shop. For more information on address, opening times, prices and programme, see www.mfs.dk ![]() Toldkammeret Culture Centre The culture centre in the old customs house by Havnepladsen stages nice concerts, exhibitions and a variety of performances all the year round. Marienlyst Palace The former royal, out-of-town palace has well-preserved interiors in Louis XVI style. There is a wonderful English-style park and large rhododendrons that flower in the spring. Behind the castle is a memorial stone by Hamlet´s grave and Ophelia´s cellar. The castle is open to the public and holds regular and interesting art exhibitions. The castle is being renovated in 2009-2010, but the park will remain open to visitors. Helsingør Pigegarde Every Friday from May to the end of September, Helsingør´s Pigegarde marches and plays through the streets of Helsingør. It is a tradition. In December, the Pigegarde changes into Christmas outfits and performs as "Nissegarde". Axeltorv This nice square is in the heart of Helsingør. The statue of Eric of Pomerania, who founded the city and introduced the Sound Duty, is by Utzon Franck. The square is edged by lovely cafés and bars with tasty Danish beer, and there is lively trade on market days. |
